You will never see grey hair models in magazines that’s because the companies that advertise in these publications don’t want you to.

I am often asked “can I grow out my hair colour and go grey?”

Yes you can only if you’re 100% white (grey). You see white hair mixed with your natural colour looks ageing but a full head of grey can look very chic. Because grey hair has no pigment and keratin it will frizz and look dry. You need a good shaped haircut (consider a short hair style when going grey), good products and effort to keep it looking styled or it will never work.

Grey hair needs toning otherwise it will start to stain from pollution, smoke, chlorine, etc. A deep violet pigmented shampoo and conditioner will neutralise these unwanted tones or a toner from your hairdresser can do the trick instantly.

My final advice to look fabulously grey is styling. If it is not smoothed out and lacks product it will fuzz. There are a few grey headed clients who I have come across that won’t need to remember all of the above as it naturally looks silvery, white and smooth.

Cut : When you are considering a new style, you need to work with your texture and encourage natural movement. Shoulder length to long styles combined with a subtle layering will increase manageability. It’s also a good idea to avoid short, blunt cuts to prevent the “pyramid” effect – where your hair is flat on top and bulky at the ends. Unless you are prepared to blow dry or straighten your hair daily, stay away from fringes and sharp layers.

Colour : Exaggerate your movement with subtle shade shifts. Try to avoid significantA�colour changes as they can stress your strands, making them more prone to frizz and flyaways. Try to stay as close to your natural hue as possible or consider balayage – a technique focusing on lightening the mid-lengths and ends – to help enhance your natural movement.

Hair combs and pins can be gorgeous with braids and chignons. Place them around the base of a bun or above one ear to hold shorter layers.

Barettes

When you want to pull your hair back quickly use a barrette. It looks classier and more expensive than an elastic. To ensure a tight hold, thoroughly tease the underside of the hair before gathering it into a ponytail and snapping the barrette as close to the nape as possible.

Achieving volume and texture from a little shaker bottle to create crazy volume is all about the fine white powder made from silica silylate. The Side Part

This look will continue to dominate in 2015, for something different, try parting on the opposite side. Hair can be stubborn when it comes to change so use a little extra product while hair is trained to lie flat in a different direction.

Long Hair

A length more commonly worn, replacing the questionable ponytails of the past. Anything chin-length and longer is cool be sure to keep going for trims. Unkempt hair looks lazy and unintentional compared to groomed and cared for long hair.

Conditioning is a must, make sure you add this to your shower routine to achieve healthy and strong ends.

This is perfect for all hair types and can be worn with a side-part or swept down. Long layers on top with an undercut is a favourite look of mine.
